Buy a Book – Support Your Local Historical Organization
Recently, the Minnesota Historical Society announced that they would remain closed, along with all state historical sites, until June 30. The Minnesota Historical Society is just one of thousands of community based historical institutions forced to close its doors during the current health crisis. Without being able to host in-person events, field trips, or invite guests to exhibits, local museums, like all of us, face an uncertain future. As a historian and author, I have had the wonderful privilege to visit dozens of local historical organizations across the Upper Midwest. While each location varies in size and resources, all of them are vital as cornerstones to the community by offering important knowledge about our past and valuable connections during our present. Though patrons cannot visit their local museums right now, we can all support local museums through membership, donations, or by other means.
To show my support and encourage others to give to local historical organizations, from now through May 15, 2020, or until I run out of inventory, I will donate 100% of the sales price from the sale of every book bought through my website, to the historical society of the buyers choice. This includes all print and ebooks.
To make your donation, visit my online store at: https://colin-mustful.square.site/. Once you’ve added a book (or books) to your cart, you can leave a note during the REVIEW & SUBMIT ORDER portion of checkout indicating which historical organization should receive your donation. Once your order is processed, I will donate the sales price of the purchase to the indicated organization and send you a signed copy (or copies) of your novel of choice.
Additionally, to those historical organizations that are closed but would like to continue offering events to their patrons, author/historian Colin Mustful is available for virtual author events via Google Meet or other platforms. Mustful is the author of four historical novels about the tumultuous and complicated period of history when Native populations were forcibly removed while American territory and settlement was expanded. Using a unique style of writing that combines elements of fiction and nonfiction, Mustful’s books shed light on historical events including the Sandy Lake Tragedy of 1850, the U.S. – Dakota War of 1862, the Spirit Lake Massacre of 1857, and the signing of the Treaties of Traverse des Sioux and Mendota in 1851. As a speaker, Mustful offers informative lectures on each subject followed by a reading and Q&A.
Virtual events are a great way to engage your audience even while remaining physically separated. It offers organizations an opportunity to encourage donations and support, and the events provide engagement and education at a time when we need it most. To schedule a virtual visit from author/historian Colin Mustful, please contact the author at: mnauthor@colinmustful.com.
Thank you for recognizing the value of history and the importance of supporting our local historical societies and museums.
